1. Birds Are Intelligent

Birds rank near the top in intelligence among the animal kingdom. They have a capacity to learn and an inquisitive nature that makes them fascinating and captivating pets. Once a bird bonds with it’s owner, it is constantly learning from that person’s behavior and often delights it’s owner with surprisingly human-like antics.

2. Birds Are Fairly Easy To Care For

Birds can be placed inside their cages when you are away from home or when you are busy. They do not require daily walks outside and housebreaking is not an issue. Some people prefer the convenience of cleaning a cage to scooping a litter box or having to go for walks outside every few hours.

3. Birds Are Easily Trained

Because they have above average intelligence, birds are usually eager to learn new things. Since they are relatively small, training them can be less physically demanding than working with larger animals. This makes them a good choice of pet for the young, elderly or disabled.

4. Birds Need Minimal Grooming

Because birds are naturally very hygienic animals, their owners can usually maintain their pet’s health and good looks with a quick nail trim occasionally and a shower of plain water once or twice a week.

5. Birds Are Very Social Creatures

A bird is a wonderful choice if you want a pet that will form a strong bond with you. With proper training and socialization, birds can be just as loving and affectionate as a dog or cat.

6. Birds Are Fairly Inexpensive To Feed

Although it is important to provide pet birds with a high quality pelleted diet, they can also benefit from fresh fruits and vegetables. These provide your pet with additional nutrients and add variety to their diet. Just be sure the foods you share are not toxic to your bird.

7. Birds Do Not Require A Lot Of Space

For persons living in apartments or condominiums with limited space, small bird species such as budgies, canaries and finches, make wonderful pets. A small bird’s cage can easily fit into a cozy living space.

8. Birds Are Not Generally Considered “Pets” At Most Rental Properties

Tenants who own cats or dogs are often charged a monthly “pet fee”. Most landlords, however, do not consider birds to be pets and do not impose a monthly fee for them. For this reason, a bird can be an economical pet choice for renters.

9. Birds Are Attractive

Birds display beautiful colors and humorous behavior patterns that are interesting to watch and have even been proven to lower stress levels in individuals. Birds bring a certain life and vibrancy to the home they grace.

10. Birds Are Long-Lived Companions

Many bird species live extraordinarily long lives, some living more than 100 years! This fact often soothes the concerns of persons wanting to adopt a pet they can love and enjoy for a very long time.
