John and I merged households last October, not only did he gain a family but he gained two more pets. Between the two of us we have three kitties Iakki, Honey and Petunia.

Iakki and Honey have complete rein of the upstairs portion of the house. They get to hang out with the kiddos, though every time we go upstairs, they are more than eager to get our attention. At a little over a year old, these two are very rambunctious and can never get enough attention.

Petunia lives downstairs with us. Since she is an older cat she is also used to being the only queen of the castle, plus she had been declawed early in her life. She has quickly gotten used to having four kids in her life, which was a surprise. She tolerates their constant activity and grown to accept them petting her. Sometimes, she even asks for it! John has written several blog posts about her recent diagnosis with diabetes, which you can view here. But I thought I would add a blurb about the time she spends with me.

Since I am an Freelance Artist, I work from home. Besides being great with working around childrens schedules, it's been beneficial with Petunia and her needs. Petunia loves to hang out with me during the day while John's gone at work. She follows me around between my art room and computer desk. While I work she loves to sit at my feet and paw at me to pet her. The queen doesn't like to be ignored regardless of if I am working!

Since we moved to this house though, Petunia hasn't had a spot to look out the window. With the downstairs being partially sub-level, she can't reach any windows. Well John did a little reorganization of his desk and it gave us an opportunity to create a step for Petunia to reach the window by his desk. Unfortunately, the ledge was too small for her to turn around once up there so I had to use my brain a little.

What I came up with was adding a simple decorative shelf to fit just under the window sill. It added another five inches of cat ledge! So with no expense, a little creativity, Petunia now has her own window fit for a queen.
