You would need to be very diligent with water changes and feeding.  Goldfish get 6-7" and when they are in an outside pond they will grow quite fast.  You can surely do it just be sure to do regular water changes and don't over feed.  Remember when algae forms in the pond the goldfish will have a constant supply of food available so I would be careful with how much additional food you add to the system.  The more food the more waste which means degraded water quality.  Good luck!
