Can you believe people can be so cruel?
This is a facebook post I just came across...
This is Mikka
I met Mikka today at the shelter. I'm not sure how old she is, but she is a senior. She is spayed, UTD on shots. She was surrendered because her owners got a new puppy, and Mikka didn't appreciate the boisterous antics of the new member. So instead of finding a way to make it work, or returning the puppy, Mikka's owners decided to ditch her at a shelter.
Mikka no doubt has some arthritis and has skin issues. She is so depressed in her kennel she doesn't even lift her head to see who is going by or even as you walk into her run. I got her to come out today and take a little walk with me, and she seemed to be on a mission... a mission to find her owners car in the parking lot. My heart sank. I quickly realized, when there are so many young, happy, playful dogs waiting for homes... Mikka may be here until she dies. And what an awful place to be. Constantly noisy. Temperature not regulated like a Senior needs. And just not enough TLC.
So now I am on a mission. I DESPERATELY want to find Mikka a place to live out the rest of her days/weeks/months/ years.... whatever that may be. She deserves that. An adoptive home, a foster home, a sanctuary, a rescue... there has got to be SOMEBODY out there that will give this sweet girl a warm bed and plenty of love. So please please please forward this along. You never know who will see it. If anyone would like to donate or sponsor please click on the shelter website.

Can you believe this? This is horrid. If you would like to share this and spread the word for poor Mikka go to http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/album.php?aid=51954&id=1467351044&ref=nf and share it... Thanks!
I just heard a really good idea on CNN regarding Animal Cruelty. They propose that we have a registry for these offenders , so we at least have documentation on these abusers. Somehow it would be tracked by pet food purchases!
I actually just saw a petition for that on Facebook. The link is here: www.exposeanimalabusers.org/ I think that's a fantastic idea. Make these people accountable for their actions on these poor, helpless animals.
I am so happy to hear that Mikka was taken in by a rescue group until she can find a home to live out her golden years. How sad that her previous owners replaced her with a puppy so easily. Poor sweet girl. At least she isn't sitting in the shelter anymore. I hope someone gives this old girl a wonderful home! Some people shouldn't be allowed to own pets.
Was Mikka ever adopted or has anyone heard anything more about her?
And have they done anything with the idea of making people more accountable for their actions?

Some people just shouldn't be allowed to have pets. Actually, sadly, a lot of people shouldn't be allowed to have pets for this very reason. I actually read further that Mikka has been taken in by a rescue organization who will keep her until a good home is found, so at least she is out of the kill shelter. Though due to her so-called owners, she is taking up the space of other dogs in need...but isn't that always the story? I just hope the new puppy doesn't meet the same fate down the road and that Mikka finds someone to love her as she deserves.
