How do you get a dog to walk on a leash? I'm talking about a Yorkie that will not walk. She just lays down. I have found that I can carry her a short distance from home, put her down, and then she will walk home. I am using a regular collar and lead. Would using a harness be better, so I can lift her to her feet? She is 7 years old and a little overweight. Thanks for any advice.Smile

Thanks for posting, have you

Thanks for posting, have you tried offering her a treat reward during small intervals of the walk?  I assume you are trying to do this to help her loose weight so you probably don't want to use a lot of treats however they make "training" treats which are very small in size so it doesn't contain as many calories.  This may be something you need to do in order to get her started in the routine.

I honestly don't think another type of harness well help as it seems she simply just wants to lay down and not walk.  I'm thinking a little coaxing with treats may bet her into the swing after a week or two.
