General Information:
The Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog.  They are characterized by two different head types – “apple head” and “deer head”.  Apple Head Chihuahuas have a rounder head, smaller ears, smaller legs, and closer set eyes.  Deer Head Chihuahuas have a flatter head on top, longer ears and legs, and wider set eyes.

Coat Type:

Chihuahuas can be found with short coats or longer coats. Both are simple to keep clean and groomed.  Longer coated varieties tend to shed less than shorter coat varieties. Neither require any specific grooming habits.

They can be found in just about any color combination and can be solid, marked, or splashed with patterns.

Temperament / Behavior:

Chihuahuas are generally not good with small children. They tend to be fiercely loyal to one person and can often become very protective and jealous of this person around other people and animals.

Chihuahuas love to snuggle and bury themselves in blankets and will often sleep under the covers at the foot of your bed. This gives them a sense of den safety.  They love sunshine and will flock to a sunbeam coming in a window to bask in the warmth.

Activity:

Chihuahuas love to run and play, but also love to cuddle and sleep, preferably on our near their people.  They will do fine in any size dwelling.
