Post Charlie and his wheel

Just a couple of Charlie pics, for no better reason than I think he looks cute sitting in that wheel. He was in a bad mood with me when I took these, because I had just finished cleaning out his mouse palace and dismantling all his shredded paper edifices. It takes him ages to re-build them.
(Please excuse the glare from the camera flash on the glass).

Charlie is a wild wood mouse. He was rescued, almost drowned, from a storm drain when he was just a baby. He's about seven months old now. :)

Aww, I love Charlie. That's wonderful of you to rescue him. Does he tolerate handling? I love to see mice in their wheels.

No, he won't let me handle him. When we first got him we could handle him, probably because he was so weak and exhausted. But once he recovered and as he got a little older, he became too fast to catch. When I clean out his multi-level tank I wait until he is in one of his nests or cardboard tubes, then I block the exits with my hands and transfer the whole thing to a smaller tank. I can put my hands into his tank to put food or water in there and he doesn't run away, but he panics if I try to catch him, so I don't. I'm slowly trying to get him to accept treats from my hand. He nearly does, then backs away at the last second. I'm hopeful that he will one day, though. :)

Don't feel silly. I just remembered that a while ago my password stopped working and I had to re-register, so I suppose all my old posts probably appear as if they were posted by a mysterious guest. I hadn't thought of that.
