Finally Got New Pictures!

First and foremost I would like to show everybody how BIG my little itty bitty Mr. Bojangles has gotton. . .

This is his BEFORE picture. Aproximately 3 months ago. . .

What cuties...yup, you were right with your earlier guess: Shannahan is a black bareback, and Yzerman is a black hooded.

Can anybody give me an estimate on how old you think they are? (those pictures with my hand should help with thier size)

Yzerman is about the same size Binky was when I got Binky so I'm sure he's still got some growing to do. I'm sure Shannahan has some growing to do. He's only a little bigger than a male adult mouse.

So cute! One question, though - does Mr Bojangles always hold his head slightly tilted towad the left or is it just the pictures that make it look like that? That 2nd to last picture of the youngsters is to die for!!

Mr. Bojangles had an ear / respitory infection when he was a baby. The infection cleared up but he never quite got rid of the head tilt.

Oh. Have no sympathy for that trouble maker. He gets along fine. The head tilt doesn't keep him from terrorizing the cats or mooching for table scraps. The head tilt is hardly noticable anymore if he is laying down or stand facing straight forward. But when he goes to look around instead of turning his head to look it kind of just tilts alot. It doesn't seem to bother him though.

Bo sounds like my Darwin. He's got a permanent tilt and some weakness in his right side from repeated minor brain bleeds - it's never stopped him from being a pain in the backside either. He lost his bladder control for a while, but that's back now (though he's never really got the hang of marking with just a droplet!) - sadly recently, he's developed some personality changes after all the stroke damage (he must have had over half a dozen that I know of in the last 18 months) and he's become a bit grumpy and a little aggressive. But the head tilt never stopped him from doing everything he wanted to. Mr. Green

Cute new babies - do you know how much they weigh? I'm not so good at judging from sizes, but weights I can give you an idea from.

As of right now I have no way of weighing them but I have some more accurate measurments.

Shannahan
7 Inches at full stretch from nose to butt
1.8 Inches across the shoulders

I should also note that the tip of Shannahan's tail still has that very bright pink color that babies have, but just the last half centimeter of it or so. His teeth have barely any length

Yzerman
9.5 inches at full stretch from nose to butt
almost 3 inches across the shoulders

He has some length in his teeth. I couldn't judge by the color because the dogfood I mix with thier food stains them orange anyways.

I wish I could help - but I honestly don't know about lengths to say with any certainty... Why Yzerman is obviously older than Shannahan, that's about all I can say. Rats are usually between 9 and 12 inches in length (bodywise) fully grown, so he's probably not that much of a baby though he's probably not old either. Rat teeth are supposed to be orangy-yellow - they have a blood supply that turns them that colour, so it's probably not the food.

Shannahan is probably between 5 and 8 weeks old - that's usually the age of baby rats in pet stores. He still has that baby look to him, so he possibly hasn't really gone teenagery just yet.

Did the store not give you any idea of how old they were?

I tend to regularly weigh my guys - it was a habit I got into because of the number of guys I had with chronic problems, and in those guys, any weight loss could be a sign of worsening in their problems. So my lot tend to get weighed every week even now - it's a bit of a ritual. wink

I'll look into getting a scale.

Them dopes at Pet Co don't know anything about rats. At least not at the one by my house. They sell primarly feeder rats so they don't keep track.

They said Yzerman was about a month, which I know is wrong because he's pretty well grown. Yzerman had yellowish teeth when i got him but after a few meals wiht the dog food they turned orange.

Thanks for your help anyways. I'll look into getting a scale.
