FYI- Great deal on a huge cage |
|
Petco.com is selling the SuperPet Multi-Floor Ferret Kingdom (the 5' tall cage) for $135 until Christmas Eve, and with a 10% off coupon code (sm12y52), you can get nearly-free shipping. I'm considering this cage myself as the replacement for the Martin's R-690 I've got my girls in right now, but I need to come up with some kind of rig to test and make sure they can't get through the 1" wire spacing first. Anyone have any experience with this? Squishy and Squee are mid-sized does, not heavy, but not tiny, and Nibbler is still growing but may or may not fit through the bars.

I have one tiny rattie girl (half the skeletal size of my 400+ gram big girls) that cannot fit through one-inch spacing. I know this because if she could, she would actually go into Mac and Harry's cage to bother them and not just climb all over the outside.
She also once spent a few nights in that cage, and hated enough to have escaped if she could've. I'd say as long as their adult females, you won't have a problem.

Usually, adult females of good size wouldn't be able to get out of a cage with 1" wire spacing. But, not all adult females will be too large to escape.
I have a few petite adult females, who could easily squeeze through a cage with 1" wire spacing. I wouldn't recommend spacing that large, but if your girls are big enough and you don't plan to get any babies soon, then it should work for you.

all my girls can get through the 1" bar spacing on my birds cage, making their exercise time more fun than the boys! hehe

Yeah, I've actually ruled this cage out after making a test rig and satisfying myself that all 3 girls could make it through 1" wire spacing (but not a 1" x 1" mesh). I found a Martin's F-477 on Craigslist and I'm trying to contact the seller now. It's still a great cage at a great price if anyone here has some big squishes.
