Hey, New England Meece People! |
|
Kim's Ark is helping with the Mt. Ida lab rescue for the third year in a row! They have over 50 sweet meecers who need homes, or they'll be euthanized. I believe they haven't been tested on chemically or anything, just used for psychological stuff, and apparently they're usually quite friendly.
So Kate, and anyone else in this area, if you're interested, these mice are PATHOGEN FREE!!! which means no quarantine and they won't bring yuck into your colony.
If you think you can help go to www.kimsarkrescue.org
and check it out
(I know this would generally be in adoptions, but this is a large number of meecers and I don't want to see them end up.. not pets.

I keep going to that page and looking, but I don't think I should get girls from there, since they're pathogen-free. They'd probably get sick right away living with a couple pet shop and a wild mouse. Plus, I've just got the new cage materials tonight, and it's going to be HUGE , so I'm hoping to get two new girls this weekend if I don't chicken out from sheer nervousness. I thought it would be best to intro two new ones in the new cage before my three even see it, so no one can get territorial -- they'll all be confused as hell, so it'll be day one all over again, I hope!

A new cage, how exciting. What are your plans? Did you get your wire from that site you had posted?
And then new mice, even more excitement!

DId I post this site: Custom Cage Works What a nice bunch of people! They're in Texas, one of the few supplies of Shepherd's Wire cut to spec small and flat. If I wasn't such a cage-building freak (and wanting to save money, just having had a new gas tank put in my car), I'd have had them make me a cage. Check out their site just to see what they can do, it's pretty amazing. Don't read the Sugar Gliders pages though -- you'll want one! If you ever need cage wire or a custom cage, this is the place to go, and ask for Mike. They're really helpful and nice.
I'm still not 100% sure about 2 more mice. Thinking about it makes me nervous (the thought of intros again), but the cage will certainly be big enough for 5! The wire arrived last night, and after the storm here I was too busy shovelling, then too tired from that to begin building the cage this afternoon. I have to work the next three nights, but in between I hope to get most of it done, so I may finish it by Tues, then get mice Tues night or Weds. I'll be sure to post pix of the finished cage, it's going to be wondrous!

We'll be waiting for those pics.
Glad were not getting walloped with snow the way you are. We are finally getting a bit here, which is good for business. A few inches the other day and maybe and inch today. It's just cold. Supposed to be a high of 9 tomorrow.
