Himilayans and a Long Hair =0) |
|
Well, my assumptions were correct! The mysterious REW's from the last litter are infact Himilayans. So, here are the first pics of them - their points just started coming in, and will darken up with a little more time.
And new pics of my BEW Long Hair girl, Honey. She is looking awfully shaggy!

Well Britt, my mice are out of English lines - which tend to have those large, completely adorable ears! Especially Ivy - her ears are wonderful, so I am very happy that her babies inherited them.
If you are looking to add some English mice to your lines before I can get down to you, check the FloridaMice group on Yahoo. Timiae (of Crazy H in Atlanta) and Charlene (of Lil Gems in Gainesville, FL) post there often, and they have a lot of English mice in many different colors/varieties. Almost half of my mice came from Timiae's lines - including my Siamese Satin (Ivy), Tri-Color Fox (Tigerlily) and my Blue Variegated (Mojo). She breeds quite a few different varieties, and most of her mice carry multiple recessives - so with a few of those, you never know exactly what you will get!
She does also breed BEW's - I got a BEW Satin Long Hair male from her a while back that started my BEW lines.

They are adorable. Can you hold mice outside? I thought they would run away, and you could not expect much from human-mouse interaction? I guess therea re exeptions to every rule.

no not really...mice do not really care for outside but natural light gets better pics, and like rats mice have depth presepction, which means most likely they are going to cling to you rather then jump that far. And mice really dont care if humans exsist...they dont great you like rats do normaly, and they dont cuddle often. I do have a few mice that love to ride around in my pockets, but I would never trust them to stay on my shoulder, ya know...Shaz

Actually, most of my mice do greet me like my rats do....is that odd?? When I go near their tanks, most of them will come up the the front and stand up to me. Then, when I put my hands in they climb right up. I didn't think it was odd at all...
And I do usually have one or two sitting on my shoulders at the computer from time to time. They don't seem to mind it at all. They don't make any attempts to jump off or anything, but one will occasionally climb down to my chest or to my hands.
Do I just have odd mice or what?

Yea you do...my mice only come up to the sides of the tank because they know I got the yoggies....with exceptions, but most of my mice really dont care, but recognise me as teh food person. Shaz

My mice always come running to the cage front to greet me, and they love cuddles, so serendipity, your mice are not odd MrlinsMagic, perhaps yours are

Could be....I already know my mice are differant, they teleport...they could fly if the wind was right, and they have a tendancie to blind people. Acctually my chocolate line dont mind people to much...they dont really jump, except loud noises...they still arent like my rats though...I havent had a mouse yet come to its name unless I was holding a treat. I do have many though that just dont really care, they are like cats and just do their own thing...as I said it depends on the mouse. Shaz

My mice all hate me. They don't bite, but they definately don't greet me...they blink up at me from their sleepy spots and grumble at me for disturbing them. I had no idea that there were mice who would great their people...I've certainly never seen one. Wow.
And thanks Shanna, I'll try to get in touch with her. My mice are pretty, but they're very American...small size, small ears, hyper as heck. I'd definately like to add that english typeyness to them. They could certainly use it.

I have two girl mice right now, REW pet store mice, Dora & Pocket. I don't feed them treats by hand, so they don't associate my hand with yummies, but they will willingly climb on most of the time- and don't mind being picked up either.
They hear or smell me and will most always stand on their top level to get closer. I sit in a chair or on the couch and they run all over me, stopping to groom sometimes. I carry them around on my shoulder at times, or I pin the bottom of my t-shirt up and carry them in my "apron" pocket. Played a game of pool like that the other day!
I do find them more nervous than my rats, and yes, they often play ON me as opposed to WITH me, but they certainly do respond- and they show tremendous trust. They don't mind being kissed. And I recently saw a video of a girl's mouse cuddled in her hand, grooming the hand- which apparently the mousie does every night.
So I believe mouse responsiveness depends on many things...partly on the mouse- the genetics of the mouse, the past history of the mouse, and also the frequency and type of handling.
I think mice can "live without you" more than ratties can- the comparison of mice to cats and rats to dogs seems apt to me. Mice don't seem to trip over themselves in an attempt for human attention every time you're in the room- but they can learn to enjoy it and respond with trust and even some level of affection, which is very fulfilling.

My little biege fox girl absolutely adores people. She doesn't normally get too many treats because she's a pudge, but she will contently explore on your hand or ride on your shoulder....aaaaand, she gives kisses. :-)

Yeah, Shaz...just package that cute little LH and send him (or her?) to me. You could also add in a little 14k or two.... Lol, like I really need more mice right now. He/she is very cute, though. I adore Long Hairs, and I am working on bringing Satin into the Long Hair lines.
Britt, Timiae is probably closest to you, and she usually has a few nice English types available. Just email her, and she will send you her available list. She does have some beautiful mice, and those ears!! To die for, really. They are so cute.
CricketSong, that is such an accurate comparison! I do feel mice are a little more like cats, and rats are really like dogs. I swear if my rats could talk, they would drive me absolutely nuts! "Come on, open the cage! Open the cage! Open the cage! We'll be good! Come on, please open the cage...PLEASE!" I would just hear that non-stop.

My lil dust ball is a male. His fur is still just as long now that he is grown. He is part of my copper mouse line, I have paired him with a female three months ago and still nothing. She is a standard coat but comes from long hair lines. So we sit and wait...there is a LONG list for babies here...unlike my 14 k I havent been keeping them a secret really. Shaz
