Sometimes as black rats get older their fur "rusts" and you is some lighter brownish hairs/patches mixed in with the black ones.

My vets routinely use meloxicam for pain relief in almost all small furries and I (and they I would assume) have found it to be very effective.

Fingers crossed that the surgery goes smoothly!

I wouldn't discount rats having mites just because only one is showing symptoms.
In my experience of having rats (22 was the most I had at one time) I have never had all of them break out with mites ...

I have never had trouble giving it to mine. They much prefer the taste to that of Baytril, plus the doses are so much smaller so its much easier to mask.

Yeah, thats a good point Linda, I also had a boy with a similar problem. He had a steriod injection and was all better for about 6 months until he surcumbed to a respiratory infection.

Flea eggs can stay viable in your carpet etc for 3 years so if you have fleas you'll have to treat the carpets and the upholstery as well or you may get them back again.
