Tumour.......pour, pour Seer |
|
i just found this site yesterday but about a monthago i found a tumour on my female mouse Seer......................all of my local vets are unable to help her and unfortuneltly the Vetenarian Hospital is $400 (australian) just to get her seen...and i cant aford it...
any way i was just wondering...are tumours on mice always Cancer? i mean will it definetely kill seer, she is as healthy as eva...

Tumors on mice are not always cancer...but unless you know the history of your mice, you wouldn't be able to tell exactly what it is without consulting a vet.
How old is Seer? Did she come from a pet store, or a breeder? Do you also own any of her relatives?

How far back do you know her generations (i.e. Grandparents, parents, etc.). Where did the line originally come from?

So....you're not only breeding tumor-prone mice, you can't afford vet care as well? Why are you breeding if you can't afford to see the vet?

You will stop breeding her relatives right? If one mouse is tumor prone, then chances are all of the mice related to her are, and it would be extremely irresponsible to continue breeding them.
Also, if you can not afford vet care, you should not be owning mice, or any animal for that matter.

Are you 100% sure that it is a tumour? I had a mouse with a growth, everyone was certain it was a tumor- til it came to a head a month or so later, and burst. It was an abcess.
You are in Australia? What state and city? I myself do not really know of vets who are experienced with mice(mine treat them, but they don't specialise in rodents), but I amy be able to find one for you by speaking to others. Btw, $400 sounds over priced, unless that includes medication, possible surgery and such. Gee, it only cost me $120 for an emergency ratty c-section and spay, and from memory that was after hours!
Oh, and not all tumours are genetic! I had a mouse who developed a tumor after she was bred, she was of known history, and not one other mouse from her line has developed any. But saying that, I wouldn't recommend a line be continued if tumors or other bad health is known

When she went to the vet, were you told that it was definitely a tumor or cancer?? If not, it could just be an abscess (like Rattie_dreams said).
Check around the growth for any puncture wounds - if you see some, it is most likely an abscess and not a tumor/cancer - which are usually easily treated.
Some other questions: How old are her relatives? Are you planning to continue breeding your mice?
If you are planning to continue breeding, you will need to find out for sure what the growth is. If your vet knows little to nothing about mice, seek out one who does. If you have taken the responsibility of caring for this mouse, you also have to be responsible for her vet care - and that is true for every animal you choose to keep.

WEll spending lots of money on her can be useless because she is a VERY old mouse and i stopped breeding her a year ago!!! she is almost 3 years old and 2 months!!!!(2months in February) so she is very old and will probably die from old age soon anyway.....................................

In one post you say this:
 |
 |
i havent Bred HER but i got her thrrough breeding |
and in the next you say:
 |
 |
and i stopped breeding her a year ago |
Hopefully it was just a mistake...
And is making your "poor" mouse's last leg of life as painless as possible really a waste of money?

Snagrit- I will put up a post on our clubs forum and see if anyone in the area knows of a good, and reasonably priced, mouse vet.

When one of my mice developed a tumor I stopped breeding that line completly..Because of very carefully selected breedings I have been Tumor free...knock on wood, for almost 3 years now and currently my oldest mouse is 2 years and 8 months old....I wouldnt advise breeding a mouse that is past a year old....heck I dont breed my females past 6-7months old. Hopefully someone will find a good resonable vet for you, but I have to say a mouse that old might not do to good for surgery. Shaz
