- of this young boy ??
He was born from a am.blue mother and a black hooded( carrying
am.blue )father.
- yes...he's 3 coloured :o
- apears to be black/blue-spottet hooded :-?

Holy cow!! It's like a blue merle rat!!!! Did any of his siblings display that at all? Is he a breeder? It'd be interesting to see if those markings will stay like that as he grows up, I know a lot of rats' colors fade. But wow...  I've never seen a rat like that before...

He's been like this since he was a baby( he's still a baby-born in december 2005 )
And a not very good baby-pic.
- don't mind the danish 
I hope for him to become a breeder in the future...so perhaps i'll be able to reproduce this pattern in the
future !!

That would be AMAZING if you were able to start a line of blue merles.... except it would be sad because you're too far away and I want one. What color rat do you think you would breed him to try to get more blue merle? Blue or black?

Thx...no tricolored in his line as far as I know.
I'll breed his father to a black berkshire dumbo rex girl carrying am.blue this summer, so time will tell.
- Calistoga will also be bred in the future..but I'll have to wait for a looooong time( 1 year or so because of the breeding-rules here in DK )

Yes! I have read about tricolor occasionally appearing, but apparently no one has figured out what gene causes it, or how to replicate it.
EDIT: Here is the link: http://www.curiosityrats.com/genetics.html . The thing about tricolors is near the bottom, under "odds and ends"

Thx....from what I've been reading this far...most 3-coloured rats are black with either beige fawn spots
- and white off course....
I hope that - because he's NOT( he's blue and black )he's more like the merle-gene that lets the mink apear
on a pearl rat...on Calistoga letting the black apear in a blue rat -----Maybe

Yeah, he doesn't look like any of the tricolored rats they mentioned. I think his coloring probably has something to do with the mearl gene, but I am not sure.
